Sant'Agata sui Due Golfi
Sant'Agata sui Due Golfi: a spectacular panorama of the Gulf of Naples and that of Salerno.
Sant'Agata sui Due Golfi owes its name to the privileged hillside position, in the center between the Gulf of Naples and that of Salerno. The panorama of the "Due Golfi" can be observed from the viewpoint of the Monastery of the Benedictine Nuns located on the "Il Deserto" hill, a few steps from the center of the hamlet.
Just down this hill, in the Vadabillo area, a vast necropolis formed by tuff sarcophagi from the 7th and 6th centuries BC has come to light. The discovery of an amphora on which a winged mermaid is depicted has given strength to the hypothesis of the existence of the temple of the sirens on this hill.
Sant'Agata sui Due Golfi has enjoyed a reputation as a tourist resort since the nineteenth century, thanks in part to its panoramic position, but also to the mild climate and healthy air that have always characterized it. It overlooks the island of Capri and the Li Galli islets.
The perfect starting point for the Amalfi Coast, from Sant'Agata sui Due Golfi it is also possible to take various paths to Sorrento, Massa Lubrense and the Crapolla Fjord. The panoramic Sentiero delle Sirenuse also starts from here.
